Indonesia Re-elected as Chairman of SEAPAC

Fadli Zon, representing Indonesia, was again trusted and elected as Chairman of the SEAPAC (South East Asia Parliamentary Against Corruption) parliamentary organization for the 2023–2025 term. Fadli Zon, who was previously Chairman of SEAPAC, was re-elected as Chairman through the Assembly session held in Jakarta on February 27–28, 2023.

The SEAPAC Assembly coincided with the holding of the SEAPAC Conference and General Assembly with the theme Parliamentary Action on Political Finance Oversight and Combating Green Corruption in Southeast Asia. SEAPAC is a regional organization in the Southeast Asia Region that houses parliamentarians who uphold anti-corruption values.

The assembly also decided on a new organizational structure for a 2-year term. SEAPAC Chairman is Dr. Fadli Zon from Indonesia; Vice Chairman are Lee Chean Chung from Malaysia and Adriano Do Nascimento from Timor-Leste; Secretary is Dr. Mardani Ali Sera from Indonesia; and Treasurer is Putu Supadma Rudana from Indonesia.

The Assembly also adopted the SEAPAC Regional Action Plan for 2023, which will prioritize research and knowledge advocacy. SEAPAC will provide more knowledge products to our members, including through the development of regional knowledge databases on specific issues, so that members from different countries can have comparative knowledge from their peers to help them develop better supervision and policy development.

In the future, SEAPAC will also develop regionally based knowledge products such as guidebooks, policy directions, research, reports, and assessment guides. SEAPAC will also launch a book titled ‘Parliamentary Handbook on Foreign Debt Oversight in Southeast Asia’ and ‘Gap Analysis and State of Implementation of the UNCAC in the Region.’

On the sidelines of the meeting, Fadli Zon stated that “As a parliamentary network dedicated to anti-corruption issues, SEAPAC is committed to fostering, collaborating, advocating, and promoting good governance at the regional and international levels. Our network supports parliamentarians to strengthen their key role in preventing and eradicating corruption through their constitutional mandates, which are becoming increasingly significant today in safeguarding democracy for the people.”

It is hoped that SEAPAC will continue to carry out its mission on voicing anti-corruption values. And also increasing the participation of parliamentarians in Southeast Asia who implement this norm.
