GOPAC elected H.E. Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri as the new Chair of GOPAC during the 2021 AGM

Doha, Qatar – The Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption held the 2021 Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 23 February 2022. Members from 32 countries around the globe have virtually met to discuss GOPAC’s governance issues and future programs and activities.


The GOPAC Annual General Meeting was chaired by the outgoing GOPAC Chair, H.E. Ahmed bin Abdulla bin Zaid Al Mahmoud. H.E. Al Mahmoud thanked all members for their support and continuous cooperation to achieve a good result for GOPAC despite the difficult and critical circumstances due to the pandemic. These past two years, GOPAC has continued its activities by contributing to the agendas of meetings and conferences organized by international and regional organizations and unions. The GOPAC voice is audible and heard by making statements and press releases on all relevant occasions and a number of parliamentarians have joined GOPAC.


The general meeting is an annual gathering of all GOPAC members to discuss the work and direction for the future of the organization. The AGM also serves as the accountability platform where the leadership of GOPAC reports their activities in promoting GOPAC’s aim and objectives.


The event was concluded by a Biennial Election which unanimously elected a new chair of GOPAC for the period 2021-2023, H.E. Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri, the Chair of the Internal, Foreign, & Defense Committee of the Shura Council and Former Attorney General of Qatar. H.E. Al-Marri is appointed as the UN Special Advocate on the Prevention of Corruption and a member of the Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, the Inter-Parliamentary Union.


H.E. Al-Marri thanked members for their vote and praised the good efforts of H.E. Al Mahmoud in advancing and enhancing GOPAC’s presence in the international communities.

Under the leadership of H.E. Al-Marri, GOPAC will activate all organs of the organization to enhance the presence of GOPAC in the world. GOPAC is ready to cooperate with all related stakeholders to achieve the organization’s noble vision and mission.
