World Movement to Hold Sixth Assembly in Jakarta, Indonesia, in April 2010

The Secretariat of the World Movement for Democracy is pleased to announce that the World Movement's Sixth Assembly will take place on April 11-14, 2010, in Jakarta, Indonesia.  The Assembly, under the theme of "Solidarity across Cultures: Working Together for Democracy," will bring together more than 500 democracy activists, practitioners, and scholars from all global regions, and will build upon the democracy-promotion strategies developed at previous assemblies held in New Delhi, India; São Paulo, Brazil; Durban, South Africa; Istanbul, Turkey; and Kyiv, Ukraine. GOPAC Executive Committee Meets in Mexico City

LEGAL INSTRUMENTS ADOPTED BY THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE
The Council of Europe has developed a number of multifaceted legal instruments dealing with matters such as the criminalisation of corruption in the public and private sectors, liability and compensation for damage caused by corruption, conduct of public officials and the financing of political parties. These instruments are aimed at improving the capacity of States to fight corruption domestically as well as at international level. The monitoring of compliance with these standards is entrusted to the Group of States against Corruption, (GRECO). Kuwait ConferenceGOPAC’s 3rd Global Conference took place in Kuwait City, Kuwait this past November 2008.  The conference brought together over 220 current and former parliamentarians, technical experts and observes on the role of parliamentarians in the effective implementation and oversight of the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).  The conference was organized in partnership with GOPAC’s Arab Regional Chapter – ARPAC and was hosted by the Kuwait National Assembly under the patronage of Amir H.H. Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah

South Caucasus Parliamentarians: New Regional Chapter

CAUPAC

The GOPAC Secretariat would like to extend its congratulations to the founding members of the newly formed South Caucasus Parliamentarians’ Network against Corruption (CAUPAC). On February 5th, 2009 MPs came together to establish the Regional Chapter and elected Mr. Ali Husynov and Mr. Fuad Muradov of Azerbaijan and Mr. Pavle Kubliashvili of Georgia to the Executive Committee. An application has been sent to formally register CAUPAC with the Ministry of Justice. News of the new anti corruption organization was met with much interest and media coverage.
