GOPAC’s Executive Director Pens Article about Parliamentarians and NGOs Working Together to Fight Corruption

We live in an age of dire cynicism about corruption in politics. Of the 100 nations for Transparency International’s most recent Global Corruption Barometer, only in 5 did a majority believe that the country was becoming less corrupt, and there was no country whatsoever whose population ranked their political parties or parliament as being “not at all corrupt”.

APNAC Elects a New Board of Directors

The Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) congratulates the Honourable Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu of Ghana and Senator Marie Claire Mukasine of Rwanda on their election as Chair and Vice-Chair respectively of the African Parliamentarians’ Network Against Corruption (APNAC). The elections were held at APNAC’s Biennial General Meeting (BGM) in Kampala, Uganda, on 26 April 2013.

Exciting Contract Opportunity with GOPAC in Timor Leste

GOPAC has an exciting contract opportunity for Timor Leste nationals, based in Dili. We are currently looking for a researcher to work on State of Nations 2013: Timor Leste. The State of Nations report helps the nation’s legislators develop a comprehensive parliamentary plan to prevent corruption and ensure that implementation of the UNCAC remains a national priority. The report also provides a useful platform for legislators to share their experiences; to build national, regional, and international coalitions to implement reforms; and to identify practical and successful ways to fight corruption.

GOPAC Granted Observer Status at the Inter-Parliamentary Union

The Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) is pleased to announce that it has formalized its partnership with the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) by becoming an IPU observer organization. GOPAC’s observer status was formally promulgated at the IPU Executive Committee meeting of 20 21 March 2013, during the 128th IPU Assembly, held in Quito, Ecuador.

GOPAC Announces Women in Parliament Network in Celebration of International Women’s Day

In honour of International Women’s Day, the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) announces the launch of the GOPAC Women in Parliament Network (WPN), which supports the efforts of female parliamentarians to combat corruption and to strengthen democracy and good governance. GOPAC’s global membership made the decision to launch the Women in Parliament Network at our fifth Global Conference, held in Manila from 31 January to 2 February 2013.

GOPAC Calls on International Community to Prosecute Corruption Perpetrators

Legislators from around the world have resolved to seek the adoption of global legal instruments to enable the international community to pursue and prosecute the perpetrators of the most serious crimes of corruption. The resolution was a key part of the Declaration adopted at the Fifth Global Conference of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, in Manila, Philippines, 31 January to 2 February 2013.
